Helena and her best friend, Katie Bell, have been attending summer camp together since they could walk; but this summer Helena is a counselor, and Katie Bell is still a camper. Helena's views about camp are forever changed as she learns what it's like to be on the other side with the older, cooler kids, smoking, sneaking out to meet the Brownies (guy counselors from their brother camp), and skinny-dipping in the lake. Ransome, a Brownie she's had a crush on since she was nine, becomes a friend, and well, maybe even more. It's almost too good to be true for Helena. Lost and recovered friendships, a physical relationship, and an insane incident come together in this novel by Kathryn Williams to create a coming-of-age story for 17-year-old Helena that will shock all readers.

The Lost Summer is an incredible story that will definitely capture the hearts of teenage girls. Every girl dreams of the perfect summer, with the perfect boyfriend; and every girl who's been there remembers the summer that changed everything. Helena grows up and realizes that being a camper isn't how it is in the real world. As a counselor, she experiences the ups and downs of being the 'grown-up' and the drama and chaos it brings. Ransome, her long-time camp crush, finally becomes more than just a crush, bringing along drama with Winn, another counselor, and her best friend, Katie Bell. The romance is the best part of the novel. I would recommend this to any teen girl looking for a fun summer read. However, I absolutely despise the ending. Some readers may love it, but I believe it ended way too quickly and with no explanation. All in all, it was an excellent book!
