Author Biography

Christine (Chris) Skippins held a long career in finance before focusing on her writing and illustration, and it didn’t take long for her to recognise her niche once that happened. After signing up at a local animal rescue centre in an effort to get involved in a local charity, Chris discovered the inspiration for her series, The Magic of Misty Nook.

As a teenager, Chris worked in a pet shop, where she frequently tried to adopt, often against her parent's wishes, rabbits, guinea pigs, and even puppies that needed homes. Her father eventually gave in and allowed Whiskey the Collie to arrive in her home. Over the years, Whiskey and numerous other pets shared their lives with Chris, but her transformative experience came whilst volunteering at a local animal rescue centre. She was inspired by the animals and the team that rehabilitate them. In that moment, The Magic of Misty Nook was born. Today, she brings wonderful animal characters to life by telling how scared and lonely souls find love and kindness at Misty Nook.

Chris is Mum to a grown son and daughter, Frankie and Baylie, her cats and Rizzo the spaniel, and Nanny to her two beautiful grandchildren and two grand dogs. A naturally active and creative person, Chris spends her mornings out walking Rizzo, forming stories in her head as they walk the beautiful countryside and beaches around their home.

The Magic of Misty Nook: A Magical Misty Nook Festival by Christine Skippins, the fourth book in the series, is a funny and engaging read for children and adult animal lovers alike. The elves that live in magical Misty Nook love to arrange a festival for the animal performers there. In the first round of the competition, the dogs hunt for as many tennis balls as possible while smart Ollie the Collie keeps the score. The next competition is for cats. The elves have built a challenging course among the shady trees, as cats love exploring! Woody, the festival host, invites the dogs to make the biggest splash or dig the deepest hole in the sand. Woody has other exciting activities prepared for his friends to enjoy being themselves and life in its fullness.

In The Magic of Misty Nook, Christine Skippins offers acute observations about different types of animal behavior. From this informative book, children will learn that dogs love making a good splash, but some prefer to keep their ears dry. Christine explains to young readers that dogs need a rest and a bowl of water after playing. The author presents these bits and pieces of important information playfully and humorously, leaving no doubt about how much she loves animals. Christine points out that cats differ significantly from dogs in their behavior, adding, "After all, cats do like to make the rules rather than follow them!" The book sends out a wonderful message of kindness and understanding. Christine complements every chapter with whimsical illustrations displaying the lovable features of our four-legged friends. The Magic of Misty Nook is the perfect book for children to read before deciding what type of pet to choose and how to make them happy.
