The Mark of Noba (The Sterling Wayfairer Series Book 1) by G.L. Tomas is a young adult fantasy about Sterling's attempt to make his mark on his senior year. But when students start to disappear from school, people start to ask questions. Sterling learns that he and a classmate, Tetra, are from a different world and there is an evil shape shifter out to kill them both. Sterling and Tetra learn they have special powers, but their power is tied to one another. In order to save themselves and possibly more, Sterling will have to have faith in Tetra and believe in her more than he's believed in anything else his entire life. Can he do it? He must if he expects either of them to survive.

This is a very diverse book that includes many characters of color. I think readers of all races will appreciate the ethnic diversity this story offers. Readers will also appreciate the character development between Tetra and Sterling. Their relationship is complicated because their power is connected to their feelings for each other. But it is more than just a plain romance. This is about trust and belief and faith. I think readers will enjoy this element of the story. Also, it is nice to have a male protagonist within a story question his beliefs or not know how he feels about another character. I found this refreshing and inspiring.
