In The Not Quite Enlightened Sleuth, a murder mystery by Verlin Darrow, Ivy Lutz left her life as a Buddhist nun in Sri Lanka and returned home when her mother had a stroke. Ivy struggled to apply her Buddhist principles in her new life and employ her skills. Ivy was able to read people's energies and inner states beyond their words as a result of her extensive meditation practice. Jan, Ivy’s sister, believed their mother was murdered when she died after a second stroke. When Ivy’s stepfather was killed, she decided to find out if it was linked to her mother’s death, and worked with Detective Art Petri, who was in charge of the police investigation. Ivy’s investigation led her down a dangerous path. Will she be able to find the answers she is looking for?

The Not Quite Enlightened Sleuth by Verlin Darrow is an intriguing and complex mystery. It is a roller coaster ride of danger, murder, betrayal, and romance that had me hooked from the start. This page-turner was fast-paced and action-packed, and it was hard to put it down. I just kept turning the pages because I had to know what would happen next. The characters were authentic and relatable, but not always what they seemed to be. Ivy struggled to adjust to an ordinary life, and her habits made her unique and made her stand out. The budding romance between Ivy and Art was interesting and provided some spice. The story was masterfully crafted, and each subplot had its place in the overall story arc. This book exceeded my expectations by far, and I really enjoyed reading it.
