Author Biography

When Brett McKay is not conjuring demons and bloodthirsty psychopaths to put on paper, he sells landscaping. He loves all types of music, but hard rock and heavy metal fuel him the most. He enjoys the outdoors, spending time with friends and family, and curling up in front of a good movie with his wife and a bucket of popcorn.

Brett lives in Utah with his wife and two sons. Fall is his favorite time of year because he gets to decorate his house for Halloween much too early for his neighbors.

The Other Side of Elsewhere is a paranormal coming of age thriller written by Brett McKay. Riverton had come to feel like home to Ret, an unfamiliar feeling for the twelve-year-old whose family had moved frequently while he was growing up before settling in here three years ago. He had two best friends, Gary and Jax, and the three of them were reveling in the prospect of their summer just beginning, spread wide and wonderful in front of them, endless summer. Dead Man’s Hill was a favorite place for them to hone their daredevil skills with their BMX bikes. The Moguls, dirt hillocks left by developers, were the perfect launchpads for increasingly daring flights. As darkness gathered, they began their trek home, past Farmer Joe’s place, who was reputed to shoot at kids with his rock-salt loaded shotgun, and then the Crooked House. Lots of rumors had grown over the years about this dilapidated old house that was half sunken into the ground. Some said it was haunted; others whispered about old murders and devils living inside. Ret only knew that simply looking at it made his blood run cold; there was something so wrong with that house.

Brett McKay’s paranormal coming-of-age thriller, The Other Side of Elsewhere, is a grand fright-fest of a novel filled with ghosts, a mortuary, undead beings and a dark and strange parallel world that tips the small and otherwise quite normal town of Riverton into something scary and dreadfully awry. I love coming of age stories, especially ones set just as summer begins, and felt instantly at home with Ret, Gary and Jax as they plan their adventures and even face a dare that is quite literally terrifying. McKay’s plot is brilliant, and his characters are authentic; some are even quite horrifying. McKay has found the perfect balance of action, adventure and horror in this book and it’s just about impossible to put down. The Other Side of Elsewhere is most highly recommended.
