The Polka Dot Diet by Delia Berlin is a story about two siblings who enjoy all the food that is laid out before them, lovingly grown and prepared by their parents. Black and white illustrations by Hailey Quercia bring the story to life. Twins Pancho and Paco loved to eat; their mother was a wonderful cook and the food was always plentiful. Mother made many good dishes, and the children always cleaned their plates. But unfortunately, they loved their food so much and mother did not like them to waste food or leave any on their plates. So this caused them to gain weight. The solution of a pet pig was the clever answer.

The Polka Dot Diet by Delia Berlin broaches the subject that eating too much can make you overweight, explained in a good way, and the clever use of rhymes makes this a very smart way of getting the message across. The illustrations are plentiful, giving a good visual aid to the story and rhymes. Delia Berlin taps into ideas of weight gain and overeating and what to do without the stigma of it. She describes it in a fun and positive way, making the book a delightful read, being educational and entertaining at the same time. Well written and pedagogic in its message.
