The Pranky Monkey by Alexandrina Andre is the story of Sophie, a mischievous monkey who likes to play tricks on the other animals. She sneaks up and scares Leo the lion and ruins Mia the rabbit’s birthday party. Her naughty behavior is caused by her feeling very lonely. She sees all the other animals doing fun things and they never seem to invite her to join in, which makes her sad. Can she change her ways and make some new friends? Or will she continue to cause trouble?

Alexandrina Andre has created a fun, educational book with The Pranky Monkey. The illustrations are bright and colorful and tell the story well. Sophie is a relatable character. She acts out because she can’t reveal how she feels to the other animals. She is embarrassed and hurt by their actions. Feeling isolated, she lashes out at them. I think this is a good message for children, showing them that it is important for them to talk about how they feel and not resort to mean tricks to get attention. It is only when Sophie changes her behavior that things get better for her. I think this book would be useful for young children, especially when they are going to school for the first time. It can be a very overwhelming environment for them and this book can help them to be open and honest about how it affects them. I would recommend it. I think it would be beneficial for young children to hear Sophie's story.
