The Spectacular World of Waldorf: Mr. Waldorf Travels to the Huge Russia blends fun and education in one beautifully illustrated children’s book. Authors Beth Ann Stifflemire and Barbara Terry tell a tale through Mr. Waldorf, a fun and spirited dog who has some adventures as he travels through the great land of Russia. When Mr. Waldorf loses his spectacles, however, he must travel even further around Russia in search of them. This serves as a fun and unique way for children to travel all over Russia and learn about the many landmarks without realizing they are actually learning geography. Mr. Waldorf travels around, exploring places like Saint Petersburg Zoo, the Ural Mountains, Lake Baikal, and Moscow, the capital of Russia. He ends up in the Russian State Library, where it becomes necessary to find his spectacles so he can read some books.
There is much to enjoy in this illustrated children’s book by Beth Ann Stifflemire and Barbara Terry. Children will love the story, the pictures, and Mr. Waldorf, while their parents will love the readability and the lessons learned about geography. I would like to see Mr. Waldorf travel to other locations in the world as well. My favorite part of The Spectacular World of Waldorf: Mr. Waldorf Travels to the Huge Russia is the fact that children will read for fun without even realizing they are learning something. I would recommend the book to children who love animals and exploring, colorful images, and fun stories about different geographical locations and landmarks.
