The struggle between good and evil continues to take place on earth as vampires are pursued by the Church. In The Spirit & The Shadow: Book One, detectives of the Vampire – Human Incident Division (VHID) track down a killer, only to discover the death of this victim is part of a larger conspiracy. Vampire agents and a secret group in search of an important package are both hunted by the detectives so a string of homicides can be solved. When it turns out that there is a mole in the police department, the chase gets even more complicated and the hunters end up becoming the hunted. Written by Thomas Lavalle and illustrated by Brandon Swope, The Spirit & The Shadow is quick paced and full of twists that keep the detectives, vampire Aiden Lawson and human Robert Garrison, on the go from LA to Canada.
The Spirit & The Shadow: Book One is a great beginning for a series relating the events of the quest of a secret group to destroy all the vampires on earth. Lavalle and Swope tell the story of the special VHID unit investigators who are tracking down vampires who have murdered people but end up becoming involved in the larger plot themselves. The action is dramatic, the text is easy to follow, and the plot has plenty of twists and surprises as Detectives Lawson and Garrison pursue leads resulting from a chain of events that actually spans the globe. This is a great story to keep even the most reluctant reader turning the pages!
