Author Biography

L.A. MALDONADO was born and raised in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Maldonado now lives in Hixson, Tennessee with his small family and his dog, Esme. He's a fan of most things geeky (think: Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Charmed, Once Upon A Time, The Walking Dead, all kind of books like Beautiful Creatures, The Vampire Chronicles, Twilight Saga, The Hunger Games, Fear Street, Harry Potter...). He has been in love with books since he was given his first novel on his 8th birthday called "I Know What You Did Last Summer" by Lois Duncan, way before Hollywood ever thought of making a Blockbuster movie out of it.

Everyone who knew him in school says that he is caring, giving, and the brave one out of the group of friends. Every time you see Maldonado, he always has a book in his hand reading. While he was in high school he wrote poems and short stories and had a number of them published in the school newspaper.

The Third Eye by L.A. Maldonado is a young adult thriller. Jodie thought the biggest problems she has are the long wait for her boyfriend to return from Alaska, and the pesky nightmares that plague her every night. Her father’s abduction keeps haunting her, but surely it’s just a dream. When she goes to school after dreams of her father being shot and attacked, she’s abducted into the world her parents have been lying to her about. With her new found abilities to see death, Jodie runs from her abductors as she pieces together the truth of the conspiracy, while planning a route to save her father even if the price is her life.

The Third Eye is a great introduction into thrillers for young adults. It has the action and conspiracy of a spy thriller, but at a condensed level. L.A. Maldonado focuses the story on death and fate. When Jodie touches someone, she sees how they’ll die, and she works to change the tragic circumstances in which her family will die. Jodie sees several death scenes, but they’re mostly done from an emotional standpoint, not needlessly vivid with details. The scenes are well-written, with an emotional connection formed with even characters that have no actual place in the larger story.

The Third Eye is at its root about family. Death and fate are the bigger themes, but family and the need to protect loved ones are at the center. Everything Jodie does is to save her father. Everything her father did was to protect her, her mother, and brother. Even Walter’s actions are driven by the need to protect. A great read!
