In Tina Lost in a Crowd, it’s summer vacation and Tina just finished 3rd-grade. Tina and her mom start making plans for the summer. One of their plans is to go to an orchestra concert at the Hollywood Bowl! Tina’s parents take Tina and her friend Erica to the concert. They are having a great time, but then Tina’s dad gets up to fetch something. Tina and Erica follow him in hopes of finding a bathroom, but then they lose him. Tina and Erica stay calm and wait for help to arrive. Author Miriam Hurdle clearly demonstrates that by recalling good advice and using your head in these kinds of situations, you can do just the right thing, no matter what age you are.

Tina Lost in a Crowd by Miriam Hurdle is a beautifully illustrated children’s book that is based on a true story—when Miriam’s own daughter became lost at a concert. Losing your child in a crowded place is every parent’s worst nightmare, but due to her critical thinking skills, Tina stays strong in a scary situation. This is a book that will help children with problem-solving and critical thinking development. I liked that Tina Lost in a Crowd is a tool that parents can use as an example to their kids on how to do the correct thing based on the specific situation. I also liked that it shows what a healthy family looks like and displays strong family values, too.
