Trafficked Dreams is a work of fiction in the crime, thriller, and suspense sub-genres, and was penned by author Heather Osborne. As the opening novel in the Inspector Briana Ryu crime novel series, this thrilling story takes us to the San Francisco Police Department, where our central protagonist stands on the verge of a very dark exploration of her city indeed. It begins with a young boy begging for help in saving his sister, but the incident cannot be followed up on until the poor boy is suddenly found dead. What results is a harrowing tale of human suffering with many twists and turns as the justice system seeks to protect those most in need.
Author Heather Osborne has crafted a superbly engrossing crime novel that will please fans of the genre for ticking all the content boxes, but it goes far beyond the simple building blocks of excellent thriller fiction. One of the elements which most impressed me was Briana’s connections to the real world and real relationships. Her procedural team is in place for the plot-related elements, but they are also well-rounded individuals with realistic dialogue, and when Bri engages with them, we learn what’s in her heart as well as her brilliant mind. This emotive work by the author helps us connect more deeply to the horrible world of human trafficking, which makes the story much more poignant and intense as the stakes grow higher. Overall, I would highly recommend Trafficked Dreams to crime thriller fans seeking an accomplished work with accurate content and reality at its heart.
