Uno the One-Legged Spider by Brandee and Courtney Huddleston is a charming children’s storybook about a one-legged spider named Uno who wants to run in his town’s big race, but his running shoe is worn out and later chewed up by his house pet. When he asks his mom to buy him a new shoe, his mom says she doesn’t have the money because she needs to buy new shoes for his brother. There are many positive lessons for children, all wrapped into one beautiful and colorful storybook: a lesson about responsibility, hard work, and living without limits. Uno doesn’t let anything stop him from reaching his goal to participate in the race, he doesn’t shy away from hard work, and he doesn’t feel entitled to his mom’s support and is understanding of her other responsibilities.

Uno the One-Legged Spider by Brandee and Courtney Huddleston is a delightful and heartwarming children’s book that teaches children the value of money and how to work for what they want. With Uno being a one-legged spider and this not being his first time running in the town’s race, he teaches children that nothing is impossible, even for those with disabilities or who are different than others. The book brims with positivity while being well-written and beautifully illustrated. I loved the comic-style layout coupled with the multiple characters, including friends and neighbors of Uno, who made this a very engaging and interesting read, drawing me in as I hoped to see Uno achieve his goal of participating in the race. Uno the One-Legged Spider is an inspiring story that teaches children valuable life lessons.
