Vice by A. J. Lape is one of the most unusual but interesting books written about police work, especially detectives and undercover work. The main character is Detective Ruby Rivera who goes undercover with various aliases and crosses paths with Alejandro Gutierrez, the leader of a crime syndicate. This makes the reader want to know more and follow Rivera through the book like a bloodhound The author has written a fast-moving, graphic, and very entertaining novel. The topic is very much at the forefront of everyone’s minds – human trafficking as well as prostitution and those that prey on the innocent. The story shows how they get victims to obey and do their bidding with no chance of escape until the victims are either thrown out into the street, broken, penniless, and addicted, or end up on the side of the road like so much garbage.

A.J. Lape has created some of the most lively characters and each one is so unique that the reader never knows what they are going to get up to from one chapter to the next. The author uses the characters to the very best advantage, no matter how small a part they play in the unraveling of the journey. The plot has many twists and turns right up to the last page, which leaves the reader gasping in shock or joy - that will depend on the reader. Vice will hold your attention from the first chapter to the end and it is the type of book that is a riveting read. It is perfect for those days when the weather outside is gloomy but inside is nice and warm. Readers will relish this gripping story. I enjoyed it very much and still smile now and then when I think about it. Well done!
