Weight Loss That Works is a multi-targeted approach to weight loss and self help penned by Dr Linda Hodges, one which advocates the ‘Secrets to Restoring Confidence and Reclaiming Your Body’. In a world of generic quick fixes and cure-all hocus pocus, this practical guide explains the personalization of weight loss and personal attitudes to weight rather than reaching for a general solution. Dr Linda Hodges insists that proper emotional and mental attitude are essential for losing weight as well as keeping it off, and also includes biological and physical advice to explain why some diet plans work for individuals and others simply don’t.

It was refreshing to read a book about weight loss that didn’t just advocate fruits and vegetables and going to the gym every day: in fact, this book doesn’t put together any ‘plan’ or ‘diet’ at all. What it is useful for is as a companion to whatever plan or diet you may choose to go on, as it helps to explain the mental and physical difficulties that accompany the weight loss process and often end up being the reasons that we give up or fail when we don’t see progress as we expected. Dr Linda Hodges writes with great clarity about the different physical difficulties that we experience, and how these can get in the way before you even begin to try a diet plan. Weight Loss That Works provides a psychological companion to any lifestyle to help you stay motivated and understand your body better during your weight loss journey.

Weight Loss That Works: Secrets to Restoring Confidence and Reclaiming Your Body by Dr. Linda Hodges focuses on what people have been doing wrong to lose weight and on what to actually do to lose weight. Losing weight has to do with what is going into our mouths as well as our mindset and genetics. Dr. Hodges shares how one diet doesn’t fit all and that the best diet is the one that works for each individual.

If you are looking for a book about a diet without gimmicks, Weight Loss That Works: Secrets to Restoring Confidence and Reclaiming Your Body by Dr. Linda Hodges is the book for you. I particularly appreciated the assistance she provides in planning a diet that fits my needs—not a mass diet that might help me to lose weight but might not help me to keep it off. Dr. Hodges' comparison of a diet to a budget really helped me to consider monitoring my intake in a whole different manner. I also appreciated the added information on how to keep weight off after losing it. I never thought about determining the basic metabolic rate needed to maintain my body and often cut my food intake so low I felt bad. She provides the reading with the formula to determine one’s basic metabolic rate, along with the amount of protein, fat, and carbohydrates needed.

Dr. Hodges' inclusion of goal setting and mindfulness as part of a diet plan seem to make the right connection with me and my new goals for weight loss. I highly recommend Weight Loss That Works: Secrets to Restoring Confidence and Reclaiming Your Body not only as an aid for losing weight, but also as a great book on health.

Did you know that losing weight is closely tied to the mind and in how we think? It has been said that the mind is the epicenter of our being. Our mind controls everything and as Dr Linda Hodges displays in Weight Loss that Works: Secrets to Restoring Confidence and Reclaiming Your Body, you will see how important the mind is and its effect on weight loss. If you believe, you will achieve and if you doubt, watch out - this is the essence of the marriage between the mind and your weight. This book reflects everything that you need and the chapters tell the story. Fat is Something You Have, Not Something You Are; You Already Have the Skills, Baby; and Special Circumstances offer the reader all of the tools needed to lose the weight and to keep the weight off. Dr Hodges reminds us that there are so many other things that play a part in our weight loss or gain like: genetics; one diet, pill, supplement or program does not fit all; bodily changes as we age. An important factor for weight loss as Dr Hodges points out is to begin and set realistic S.M.A.R.T. goals and expectations. Remember, you have more control than you realize if you focus on health instead of trying to look like someone else.

Beginning with this quote “Weight loss starts with your mind….not with your behind” by Dr Hodges, I knew that I would enjoy reading this book and that it was going to be power-packed with goodies. Dr Hodges did not disappoint. She discusses the different types of diet plans from plant-based to commercial like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers to help the reader make a more educated choice about these programs and what they may or may not offer you because every “body” is different. This book is easy to read and understand and will leave you with enough knowledge to become successful in your journey to living and being healthier. What is so amazing about this book is that not only will you learn how to lose weight in a healthy way but Dr. Hodges will provide you with resources and stay engaged with you in maintaining your weight loss success.

Not just another weight loss book January 17, 2019
Love this book! From the very first chapter “Fat is something you have, not something you are” Dr. Hodges talks about how everyone’s body is different and responds to different foods in various ways. A lot of weight loss books have been discouraging to me because they make it sound like weight loss is as simple as calories in v. calories out. My struggles with weight have proven it isn’t that simple and her book validates those feelings. My hormones and metabolism may be different than yours and that’s ok, its not my fault. It just is what it is and this book teaches me how to learn what is best for my body. I felt like she was on my side throughout the book instead of “preaching” to me! I highly recommend that anyone who is struggling with their weight read this book today!
