Life in all its beautiful nuances is truly sublime, where “words fail to capture the splendour before my eyes.” In Viga Boland’s Where Shadows Dance, John Boland’s photographs capture the subtle beauty of nature while Viga Boland’s poetry paints a picture of life in eloquent words as it reflects the world around us, one full of metaphors and similes. “Wispy trees crimsoned by a dying sun/ mesh and curl/ on the great heaving chest/ of autumn that breathes in chilly gusts/ spreading leaves like bacteria/ and winter like rust.”

Viga Boland’s Where Shadows Dance is a collection of stunning photographs taken by John Boland and poems, many of which have won prestigious awards, by Viga Boland. The poet’s use of language is a refined art of metaphors and similes that will have the reader spellbound while John’s photographs, full of life and color, vividly reflect the world around us; from the sun’s rays reflected in a glassed-in skyscraper to the simple flurry of seeds whipping off a solitary dandelion, “a single puff dispersed into the air.” The visual images of the photographs and the literary adornments of the poems are powerful, thought-provoking, and sweet remembrances of the beauty that’s all around us. This collection of poems and photographs is a spectacularly joyful look at what we often take for granted: the simple colors of a sunset, the minuscule fibers of the wisps of dandelions and so much more. This is a book to soothe the soul and help one reflect on all the goodness of the world around us.
