Willie the Worrying Dog is a children’s picture book by David Yuen with illustrations by Micah Zhang. Willie is a cute dog that cannot stop worrying. Whether there is rain or sunshine, Willie worries all the time. One day, Willie’s owner tells him he will take him to the park. Willie becomes nervous and goes over all the things that could go wrong. On their drive to the park, Willie realizes the car is going in a different direction. Are they going to a new park? Willie thinks he may be going to a dark, rainy forest where he will get laughed at by the new dogs, or the trees may fall on him. What Willie does not know is that his destiny is to meet new friends who will help him with his concerns. Get a copy of this book and join Willie as he overcomes his fears.

Willie the Worrying Dog not only takes you on an adventure to a new park, but it also teaches children about conquering fear. Willie is an adorable white dog with brown spots and black ears. He should be confident and happy. Instead, he is crippled with anxiety and fear of the unknown. This dread keeps him indoors, which is not good for his mental and physical health. This story and its lesson can apply to adults, children, and animals. David Yuen presents this message in a rhyming story about a dog that finds new friends to help him get past his fears creatively. The book also includes colorful illustrations that show the emotions of the characters and help the reader understand their personalities. I recommend parents read this book with their children to help them get out of their shells and worry less about the unknown.
