Two distinct tales comprise Winifred the Wonder Witch by Margaret Harcourt West. The first, The Witch Who Lost Her Magic, illustrates the difference between Winifred, who used her powers in acts of kindness and generosity, and the one who stole them. Wanting to be loved like Winifred, Grumpy Gerald the Giant took them. The effect of the stolen magic is markedly different because they are unique characters. The second story, Saving the Dragons, tells the tale of two princesses who become concerned about the safety of their two pet dragons. Winifred and Gerald return to help, and when they reappear, the reader will note similarities and differences.

Throughout Winifred the Wonder Witch, the author creates a fascinating portrait that will stimulate a child’s imagination and progressive investment. The book is exceptional in children’s literature. It integrates a compelling narrative throughout two distinct yet clearly interconnected tales that underscore child development. This distinction enhances one aspect of the theme: the ongoing journey between the tales. The reader will further immerse themselves in wanting to know what has changed and what remains the same. Margaret Harcourt West has written two delightful stories for young children demonstrating the rewards of being good, kind, and generous and the magic of coming together to help those in need. Throughout Winifred the Wonder Witch, there are wonderfully colorful illustrations. The two tales in this book are captivating and emphasize several life lessons.
