Wren and the Worry-Vanishing Magic: A Strategy-Filled Guide to Help Ease Anxious Feelings by Kendra Fogarty is an engaging resource for kids struggling with anxiety. Wren is a young girl who is off to a new school. She is excited but has many worries that she deals with alone. She finally confides in her mother, who teaches her some tricks to handle her anxiety positively. Wren now has the tools to share these techniques with the many other students in her school who deal with various worries. The book is divided into short two-page chapters that highlight a specific worry, like making friends or being perfect. At the end of the story, there are twenty different techniques that kids can try to cope with their fears.

All of us have emotions. I wish that Wren and the Worry-Vanishing Magic was around when I was growing up. Kendra Fogarty does a great job of incorporating common childhood worries with a fun, magical story. She emphasizes that we all have different things that cause us to worry, but by exploring some calming techniques, we can positively manage our anxieties. The illustrations by Marcel Giesen add a delightful dimension to the tale. Parents and teachers can zero in on a specific worry that a child is exhibiting or read it to an entire class to help everyone explore ways to cope with their concerns. The Not-So-Magic Coping tricks at the end of the story are diverse and might even benefit the adults who read the book, too!
