A Woman in Search of… is a work of fiction in the women’s fiction, interpersonal drama, and slice-of-life subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience. Penned by author Lynne Brightman Horn, in this intricately woven drama about one woman’s very personal journey, we find ourselves transported back to the 1970s as social change and the fight for emancipation come into full swing. Wendy, recently separated, begins a new life, unlike anything she’s ever attempted before, meeting new people and trying new things. But whilst some of her experiences are a brand new lease on life, a tangle with the world of recreational drugs starts her on a dangerous path.

Author Lynne Brightman Horn has crafted a work of dramatic, realistic, and heartfelt fiction that takes a really balanced look at the highs and lows of freedom, hedonism, and escape. I thought the setting was an ideal choice to talk about so many of the themes that still resonate strongly in women’s fiction today, with strictures being challenged and the idea of a woman’s “place” in the world brought to the fore and discussed so beautifully. Wendy is a closely developed central heroine who is far from perfect, and it’s in her mistakes that we see her at her most raw and only warm to her even more as a result. The plot moves at a smooth pace with some fantastic dialogue exchanges and vivid scenes of the swinging seventies in full flow, making A Woman in Search of… a lively read with tons to offer fans of women’s drama and nostalgic fiction everywhere.
