Addy Iris’s initials are AI, just like the AI named Jaz, the robot she meets on her way home from school. Jaz is lost and confused. He was created in a lab and released into the world to experience and learn about humans. In Amber Ivey’s AI... Meets... AI, Jaz quickly learns that the human world is big, busy, noisy, and confusing. Addy comes to the rescue and promises to help Jaz find his way home back to his lab. On the way, the two bond in friendship and share experiences. Jaz learns about caring, compassion, empathy, protecting the environment and so much more. Addy learns a lot, too.

Amber Ivey’s picture book, AI... Meets... AI, is an interesting introduction to the concept of artificial intelligence. Told in simple language so young readers can easily follow along, the plot follows Addy’s discovery of the AI named Jaz and their adventure together as she leads him back to his lab. There are a number of important concepts shared in this story, from stopping to help an elderly lady, to cleaning up the trash to protect the environment. And, of course, the best and most important lesson taught is the powerful bond of friendship. The illustrations are superb: bright, bold, colorful, and full of animation and life. There is a lot to learn and enjoy in this little treasure of a book and young readers will undoubtedly open up discussions on artificial intelligence and some of the other important concepts shared in the story. Beautifully told.
