Alex McKenna and a Winter's Night is the third entry in the Alex McKenna Series by Vicki-Ann Bush, a story crafted to offer a full and enjoyable reading experience to new readers of the series. With just one year left to complete college and a wonderful girlfriend, Alex McKenna feels comfortable and fulfilled. Alex’s psychic powers as a Strega are also growing, but when Margaret, his girlfriend, has an accident and is in the hospital while her spirit searches to reunite with the living, Alex will do anything to save her. The hospital is haunted by a powerful spirit that steals infant and elderly souls and sends them to hell. Can Alex master his powers in time and prevent the worst from happening to the love of his life?
This is a cleverly plotted and expertly executed paranormal novel filled with unusual adventure. I enjoy stories with a strong sense of place, and Alex McKenna and a Winter's Night is one such story. The author imagines a vivid setting written with detail, including the atmosphere at school and the disturbing omens in the hospital. The paranormal side of this story reveals great creativity and imagination. The characters are believable, and they are rich psychologically and emotionally. There is a strong protagonist, a young man with gifted supernatural powers, driven by an equally strong motivation — the absolute need to save the one he loves. The tension grows as readers turn from page to page, building up to a thrilling climax. I enjoyed the drama, fueled by the well-crafted dialogues and Vicki-Ann Bush’s superior storytelling skills.
