Backlash Bounty by Lori Power is set in 1813 and tells the thrilling adventure of British Captain Garrett McGuire and his beloved wife Bessy. While searching for Spanish treasure at the behest of Cornwallis to fund the Napoleonic war, Garrett and Bessy’s brother, First Mate Brian MacLeod, are captured by a Confederate American, Lieutenant Samuel Holden. The Americans take possession of Garrett’s precious ship, the Isle Sky, and imprison Garrett. One of Garrett’s men, Horace, travels to Boston to inform Bessy of his capture. Bessy puts her own life at risk to rescue her husband and is forced to travel through dangerous battle zones and rugged terrain, using her skills and expertise to outwit Garrett’s captors. Brian’s wife, Marie Kelly, stays behind to care for Bessy’s sons Mackenzie and Malcolm. With the help of Benge, one of the four Iroquois he’d helped escape the prison, Garrett and Bessy have a chance to begin a new life – until Bessy is accused of being a spy and is forced to flee with her family, leaving Garrett behind.

Author Lori Power combines action, romance, and suspense in her novel Backlash Bounty. The story is a real page-turner from beginning to end, keeping the reader enthralled as Bessy makes her way to her man. The interesting array of characters is all well described and easy to relate to including the military personnel and Bessy’s family. Locations are clearly depicted and help the reader to form a visual of each scene from Garrett’s ship to their home and the various environments in which Bessy finds herself. I especially enjoyed Lori’s form of writing; fast-paced and descriptive. There are enough characters to create an exceptional story but not so many that the reader starts to lose track of everyone. All-round, a great book with all the elements of an award-winning novel.

Backlash Bounty: McGuire is the third installment of the McGuire saga by Lori Power. It's the year 1813. On his way to search for lost Spanish treasure, Captain Garrett McGuire of the Isle of Skye finds himself a captive of the American Confederates along with his crew. Beaten and tortured, the only thing saving him from certain death is what he may know. Meanwhile, when news of Garrett's imprisonment reaches Bessy, his beloved wife in Boston, she leaves their children with her sister, Marie-Kelly, and sets out on a brave but dangerous journey navigating deadly battlegrounds to free her husband. Along the way, she becomes unintentionally famous as the Angel of the Battlefield and finds unexpected help from some escaped Iroquois prisoners who want to return home. Will Bessy rescue her husband and reunite her family?

A historical fiction romance novel set during the Napoleonic Wars in the 1810s, Backlash Bounty is an absolute treat that perfectly demonstrates the inner strength of women and the lengths they will go to protect their families. The narrative is action-packed, and the twists and turns of the plot keep your eyes glued to the pages. Lori Power captures the psyche of the separated couple flawlessly, infusing just the right amount of suspense into the narrative to make the tension more palpable. Bessy is a tenacious spirit you can't help rooting for. Her kind nature and iron will make her the perfect heroine for the story. If you love romance stories in historical settings, this is just the book for you.

Backlash Bounty is a work of fiction in the historical fiction and romance subgenres and is the latest installment of the McGuire series. It is suitable for the general adult reading audience and was penned by author Lori Power. The book follows Bessy McGuire as she sets out to rescue her husband Captain Garrett McGuire after he is captured whilst hunting for the treasure needed to fund the Napoleonic War. On her journey to find Garrett and bring him home, Bessy will face danger on all sides as the forces holding her husband captive realize the value she has in finding the precious treasure that could change the outcome of the war.

I immediately adored the role reversal of who rescues who in this epic adventure in which the dashing Captain Garrett McGuire is captured and held prisoner for his loving wife to come and rescue. Author Lori Power has a keen eye for romance and adventure, with her delightful prose painting a wonderful picture of devotion between two people as well as the incredible lengths they will go to for each other. Bessy’s characterization is excellent with a dynamic sense of growth in response to the events of the story. It’s a powerful character development arc that forms the emotional backbone of the adventure and the delivery is excellent as Backlash Bounty charts a course not just through exotic and dangerous locales but through Bessy herself. Overall, it is a charming and exciting romantic adventure that pushes the envelope in all the right directions. This is an excellent book that I heartily recommend to all readers.

Garrett McGuire was an emissary between the British and American traders. So it was no surprise when His Majesty commissioned him to search for the treasures that would fund the continuation of the Napoleonic War. Garrett was the most qualified, having come from a long line of men who lived their lives and found fortune at sea. Unfortunately, the American military captured, detained, and brutalized him to give up the treasure. When the news of Garrett’s capture reached his wife, Anne (Bessy), she resolved to rescue her beloved. The year was 1812, and women couldn’t travel alone, especially with the ongoing war. However, she set out as a healer into the most dangerous territories without a plan. Would Bessy succeed in her rescue mission? Backlash Bounty by Lori Power presents a riveting tale.

If you read Bride by Proxy or love historical romance, Backlash Bounty by Lori Power is a must-read. The feisty Bessy has returned. Armed with determination, resourcefulness, courage, kindness, and Abby as her companion, Bessy is unstoppable. I loved everything about this novel, from the plot to development, storyline, era-appropriate language, and descriptive storytelling. The characters were also unforgettable as if it was a movie. While Garrett earned my respect, the women shone throughout the story. Marie-Kelly, Carolanne, and the ever formidable Bessy held down the fort in various capacities. I also adored the relationship between Bessy and Garrett for it was a thing of beauty. They functioned like a well-oiled machine, the Yin to Bessy’s Yang. Backlash Bounty shows how women could hold their own and possess reservoirs of surprises. Lori did thorough research and nailed the timeline in this fusion of romance, war, and adventure. Backlash Bounty: McGuire by Lori Power is the third book in her McGuire Series. Captain Garrett McGuire is a neutral ship owner caught between four countries. Living in Canada while the Americans and British fight over the country is dangerous as each country feels they have the right to the people, land, and property of others. Garrett is commissioned by the French to deliver riches to the Napoleonic war. When Garrett is captured, his wife Bessy knows she must do something to free him. Bessy sacrifices her hair and feminine attire, then turns the care of her children over to her sister-in-law. Bessy's skill with healing comes in handy as she weaves through battlefields of dying and damaged men to get to Garrett. Will they escape from the hands of their vilest enemy when they are within his grasp?

No matter the genre, Lori Power is a skillful author that pours her soul into her work. Backlash Bounty continues the legacy of McGuire's golden touch. The author brings to light the turmoil Canadians faced during the War of 1812. I loved this story because it was rich in history, an intriguing plot, and an insight into life while this continent was still fighting over ownership. The writing style and vivid characters made my imagination run wild as they struggled for freedom. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as the author brings her characters to life on the pages and in your heart. Lori Power will satisfy your cravings for historical fiction with a touch of romance through her novel.

Backlash Bounty by Lori Power is set amidst the Napoleonic War in the 1800s when Captain Garrett McGuire sets sail for a bounty that everyone wants as well. As luck would have it, Garrett is imprisoned, his men are held captive, and his ship is in the hands of the enemy. Now it is up to his wife Elizabeth, aka Bessy, to rescue the love of her life and save the day. Can Bessy manage to outsmart the Americans and save her husband?

Backlash Bounty by Lori Power has it all: pirates, war, treasure, and a female lead that holds her own among even the toughest of men. Bessy is honestly such an amazing character, not only for her strength of will and character but for her enduring devotion to her husband. I love that her character represents a balance between a strong woman and a loving wife. Coupled with the overall action of the story and amazing descriptions, this book was such a pleasure to read. The battles are reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean and it was easy enough to imagine these scenes with the well-detailed scenery. The characters, as well as the world-building, were excellently done and allowed for an entertaining read throughout the plot. Overall, it was hard to put this book down and I found myself finishing it before I knew it. I would definitely recommend Backlash Bounty to any historical fiction lover who has a fancy for drama as this book surely has plenty to offer.

Backlash Bounty by Lori Power is the third in the series about the adventures of Captain Garrett McGuire, his beautiful, brave, and loyal wife Bess, and their extended family at a time of great upheaval in the newly-minted country of the United States. The war of 1812 is in full swing, with British forces attempting to regain control of their rebellious dominion. With the complication of French involvement, through their Canadian interests, it is impossible for many to determine just who is a friend and who is a foe. The redoubtable Captain McGuire chooses no side over another and his only focus is to make enough bounty from whoever is offering the best prices to move his family away from the seemingly eternal conflict in Boston to their new dream location of Nova Scotia. When Garrett and his beloved ship, Isle Sky, are captured by the British, he knows his survival relies solely on the British determination to discover where he has hidden his plundered treasure. He must escape but escape will be difficult and treacherous. Back in Boston, when Bessy becomes aware of her husband’s capture, she sets out on a perilous journey to free the man she has loved from childhood. Leaving her children in the care of her sister-in-law, Bessy must not only brave the active battlefields of the conflict but somehow arrange Garrett’s successful escape from British custody. The odds are stacked heavily against this couple’s future dreams.

I was fortunate enough to read and enjoy the first book in this series by author Lori Power and was excited to read Backlash Bounty and yet again fall in love with the characters she brings so eloquently to life on the page. Bearing in mind the time frame and Bessy’s noble background, she is a wonderfully down-to-earth, warm, loving, and fully-rounded character who has adapted well to the privations of life in the new Republic. It is her deep and abiding love for Garrett, her children, and her extended family that enables her to bear the long separations whilst her husband and brother are at sea, as well as the difficulties of raising a family in 1812 Boston. What I particularly like about Bessy is not only her bloody-mindedness and determination to succeed as a woman in what is very much a man’s world but also that the author manages to bring her vulnerability, her fear, and her misgivings about the situation right to the surface. It is this completeness of character that makes her so appealing. For readers who love a good, stirring sea adventure with plenty of action, there is much to be enjoyed in this story but also it is the heady combination of love and family that brings the whole story together so beautifully. The author has set the scene for book four of this series and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. This is a wonderful read that I can highly recommend.

Backlash Bounty is the third and final book in the McGuire Series by Lori Power. The story begins in 1812 on Capraia Isola, where Garrett McGuire is seeking a treasure that (if it exists) will serve to finance the war. Things are not going smoothly anyway, as Garrett has a hard time after being captured. Meanwhile, Bessy, Garrett's wife, disguises herself as a man and sets off in search of her husband. For her, this is the beginning of a dangerous journey that will take place between cannon shots and gunfire. After rescuing Garrett and returning home, Bessy discovers she is considered a spy and must run away. How will this adventure end?

What I liked most about Backlash Bounty is that this novel combines love and adventure and has a clear historical background. Lori Power came up with the idea for a beautiful story, which she tells in an engaging and compelling way. I took Garrett and Bessy to heart and followed them in their adventure with sympathy; I am sure the same thing will happen to any other sensitive reader. I did not fail to appreciate the fine descriptions of the feelings and actions of the characters. Furthermore, I'd like to stress how Bessy is an exemplary heroine and worthily represents all the brave women of that period. I recommend this book to all readers who enjoy stories set in the past and love to read about strong and sincere feelings such as those of Garrett and Bessy. This book will enchant them.

Bessy is on a mission to save her husband, who is being tortured for his knowledge of the whereabouts of a treasure he was assigned to find—a treasure that could improve the chances of winning the Napoleonic Wars. Forced to watch his ship, the Isle Sky, get raided by his captors, Garrett McGuire's only chance to see his wife and children is to escape; informing them about the treasure they seek would be suicidal. In Backlash Bounty: Book 3 of the McGuire Series, Lori Power spins an action-packed, fast-paced historical romance woven around the power of love and the smoke-filled horrors of war. Surrounded by enemies on all sides, Garrett and Bessy must make their way through deadly, overwhelming obstacles to find the peaceful and happy family life they desperately desire.

Backlash Bounty is packed with intense action scenes and perilous situations that got my heart racing, like an elite sprinter in an Olympic race. I couldn't stay away from the book for too long because its suspenseful plot kept pulling me back to it. I needed to find out if the two protagonists would sort through their emotional troubles and worries, which spring from their love for each other. Lori Power creates such realistic characters that I had to remind myself that the story wasn't real; their interior monologues and intriguing conversations add to the book's irresistible features. You should read Backlash Bounty if you love narratives about fearless, strong-willed heroines and fleeing from formidable, gun-wielding enemies. I'm seriously looking forward to reading the other books in the series!
