Bowman of Wellwood by Nina Jamesine is a delightful tale about an unlikely friendship and the secrets that lie within the woods. Bowman has always been curious, living for the adventures he finds when he goes out to explore, but one night he makes a discovery that will change everything for their community. Giants are real and they’re in the woods. When Bowman decides to take a closer look, he is captured by a giant and he does whatever he can to escape but, as the two get to know each other, they start to form a surprising connection. When Bowman uncovers a dangerous threat to his community, he has to trust these mysterious strangers to save everyone he loves.

Nina Jamesine has brought to life a delightful story about a colony of Sprites as they face a mysterious discovery when three friends camp out in the woods. The story weaves between three perspectives as their world is moments away from being discovered and everything they believe in is about to change. The perspectives split between Bowman, Jacob, and Rischa (Bowman’s little cousin) with each of their voices adding a different layer to the story. Each of the Sprites has a sweet innocence about them that keeps the story light even through chaos and when a betrayal threatens everyone Bowman loves.

Bowman is a character with a natural curiosity about the world around him, which makes him the perfect person to discover the strange giants and instead of hiding away, he returns to learn more about the strangers. Jamesine delivers an adventure with commentary about respecting and valuing nature which strives for harmony between humanity and nature. At the heart of the story is a tale of friendship, a journey to accepting each other, and fighting to do what’s right even if it’s going against friends. Jamesine delivers a quirky story in Bowman of Wellwood which is humorous and has a lightness that brings plenty of heart.
