Bubblegum Heart and Other Elastic Things by Quazaye Konkel includes a variety of poetry themes from love, abundance, wisdom, and pain to loss that readers will be able to easily resonate with. As the author divulges the various aspects of relationships through words of transparency, others can also see that despite the hurt there are glimpses of healing and closure. I am reminded of when Mary J Blige was beginning her career. We were able to see her hurt and passion through her songs. This is the same feeling that I’ve experienced in reading Quazaye’s poems. The author also lets us know that it’s okay to be vulnerable, to express your hurt yet still be open to love again.

in Bubblegum Heart and Other Elastic Things, there are several beautiful poems for the reader to enjoy. Some of them that spoke to me were about where it hurts, monsters and thorns, groundwater, and safekeeping. For the ability to create these wonderful bodies of work, the author has to bare her soul and tell her story. In reading this book of poems you will see how when using your emotions and creativity you can develop skills, materials, and resources that can be instrumental and essential to helping others along their journey. Whether you are looking for a connection, ways to express your emotions, or looking for some release, Bubblegum Heart and Other Elastic Things by Quazaye Konkel is ideal to add to your library to begin the healing process.
