In Captain Polo at the North Pole by Alan J. Hesse, the author has taken the relevant topic of global warming and written about a polar bear who tries to help a very special person who comes once a year to do a very special job. But the obstacle is the warming ice which makes it slushy and not a smooth runway for take-offs. Two friends find the solution by devising the best plan ever.

Captain Polo at the North Pole is an entertaining and informative children's book about Christmas. Alan J. Hesse has made the characters of Captain Polo, Santa, Akut, and the Ikut Inuit Indians so friendly and believable as they discuss global warming, how they can make more people aware of the problem, and what they can do to help solve the problem. The illustrations are charming and will bring delighted chuckles forth from youngsters listening to the story. This book will help children progress in their fight to overcome learning difficulties, even to the point of drawing their own pictures to tell the story. The author has created this book most beautifully without it seeming as if the children reading the book are learning. Young readers will be inspired to look up any big or unfamiliar words and explanations of how global warming works. Also, author Alan J. Hesse shows simple solutions and how all families can help with global warming by doing their part in reducing their carbon footprint. I really enjoyed this book.
