Carers is a work of fiction in the slice-of-life, comedy, and contemporary drama subgenres. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience. Penned by author Chris Dann, this charming and realistic novel paints a witty and candid portrait of the daily life of community carers, highlighting the humorous and often challenging experiences of those who care for a group of cantankerous elderly clients. Sarcasm, insults, and cheekiness are par for the course for the staff of Diane's Angels, where they navigate the demanding tasks of getting their residents up, washed, fed, and even handling more intimate care needs. The story introduces a diverse cast of characters, each bringing their unique personality to the caregiving team.

Author Chris Dann offers a humorous and lighthearted take on a profession that often goes underappreciated. It reveals the dedication and resilience required to provide care but does so with a generous sprinkling of humor and sarcasm. While showcasing the challenges of the job, it also highlights the camaraderie and bonds that form among the caregivers. Mo, Deirdre, Jenny, Rosie, Diane, and Jackie each have their roles and quirks, and they are lovingly drawn with unique ways of speaking, clear attitudes, and diverse dialogue that is both realistic and deeply engaging. Their interactions and relationships, both with each other and with the elderly residents, form the heart of the story, offering a surprising and poignant experience the more you get to know them. Overall, Carers shines a light on the unsung heroes of the caregiving world and adds a dose of laughter to the mix, making it an enjoyable and enlightening read that I would highly recommend.
