Diversion by Darin Miller is the fourth book in the Dwayne Morrow Mysteries series. Dwayne has gone to West Virginia to find answers by following his missing sister’s journey but is shocked at what he finds. Briarstaff has a population of just 1,967 and was once a mining town. Now it’s home to people just living their lives, a town seemingly frozen in time. At first glance, it looks like the perfect place to live but underneath, something sinister lurks. Dwayne wants to know what happened to his sister and why the town is stuck in the past and he soon learns that not everyone wants him there. His digging unearths secrets that should have stayed buried, and Dwayne needs to solve the mystery before he becomes the next victim.
Diversion by Darin Miller is the latest in a series, which should preferably be read in sequence to understand the underlying story and get a better grasp on the characters. It’s got plenty of action and grabbed my attention right from the start, holding me enthralled until the end. The mystery was interesting, with a unique premise that offers something a bit different from the normal murder mysteries found in this genre. Miller has an engaging style of writing and manages the perfect mix of action, dialog, and backstory to keep you reading. The characters are relatable and easy to like and you’ll be on the main protagonist’s side all the way. This is a great addition to the series and is highly recommended for all fans of mystery stories.
