Dream Incubation for Greater Self-Awareness: A Handbook by Kelly Lydick is a handy, clear and down-to-earth guide about dreaming and dream incubation that introduces the reader to what dreaming is and what it can lead to when consistently pursued with focused intent and a proper mindset. After briefly touching on the main facts, definitions and approaches concerning dreams and dreaming from a historical, philosophical, mystical, scientific and psychological point of view, Kelly covers the whys and hows of dream incubation in a straightforward and eye-opening way. A key definition Kelly provides throughout the book, with plain examples, relates to our Self and Higher Self and how the two work together. At the end of each chapter, readers are asked to accomplish self-inventory, journaling or research activities which fully involve them. Kelly also provides an extensive bibliography to back up her work and the way science and mysticism are coming to similar conclusions.

As a lucid dreamer and astral traveler who is always researching ways of enhancing higher consciousness in the here and now, I find Dream Incubation for Greater Self-Awareness by Kelly Lydick a well-informed and comprehensive introduction to dreaming and dream incubation, which does not force ideas on readers, but rather encourages them to: 1) expand their understanding and reach their own conclusions about each topic; 2) actively practice the various steps involved in the technique; and 3) feel comfortable about the process. I find Kelly Lydick’s style very clear and understandable for the layman who has an interest in dream incubation. Kelly also discloses how and why the process is surprisingly easy and does not require hard work in terms of preparation. The use of colourful pictures makes the reader’s experience more enjoyable and thought-provoking.
