Dropsy by Debra Luke Hardison is a fun, rhyming children's book about a girl named Jordan who finds a baby squirrel that fell out of its nest. She names the squirrel Dropsy, because it fell out of a tree. Jordan's family keeps Dropsy for a few months, helping him to grow strong. Everyone likes Dropsy, because he is fun to play with and his fur feels like silk. But soon spring comes, and they can't keep Dropsy forever; he needs to return to the wild. What will they do?

I really enjoyed Dropsy by Debra Luke Hardison. The book is relatable, because many people have helped out a baby animal when it is in need. The characters are all very likeable, because they are compassionate. Dropsy is a book children will want to read over and over again, as it's fun to read and is a beautiful story. The illustrations by Donna Brooks are very well drawn and realistic looking. The illustrations of Dropsy are adorable. I really liked how there was a hidden acorn in each picture. I enjoyed searching for the acorn, as it provides a fun game, and the hiding spots are very creative - young readers will enjoy looking for the acorns too. The book is well written and rhymes. The rhymes are very well done and give the book rhythm. I like how at the end of the book is a bunch of facts about squirrels. I would recommend Dropsy by Debra Luke Hardison to young readers.
