Faith and Identity by Margaret Tran is not only a heartfelt personal odyssey through the faith and identity of the title, but also through acceptance, gratitude, forgiveness, healing, and a host of other eminently worthwhile milestones which, though directly taken from Tran’s life, are truly universal in their scope and resonance. Tran’s verse is accessible to even the most inexperienced reader of poetry, without ever being maudlin or overly simplistic. Her approach is direct, honest, authentic, and unselfish – it is clear that she wishes for each of her readers to both appreciate her catharsis and experience one of their own. The seeds of the reader's journey to enlightenment and healing are planted in Tran’s apt telling of her own story.

Margaret Tran sourced Faith and Identity from her own experience as an adopted child, wondering why her birth mother gave her up, but is not limited by the parameters of that experience. Her milestones and her message resonate across many journeys. Along the way, she delivers a great deal of wisdom, truth, and compassion. In ‘Identity’, a bullied child Tran asks her reflection “Who am I” and receives the following answer from her absent/imagined birth mother: "It’s okay/my sweetheart/” I am always here for you”/my mother said/they are all just/jealous/of your/beautiful heart." Tran’s work has much to offer anyone seeking to understand themselves and life, in general, a bit better. Its honest, heartfelt lines will uplift and affirm anyone who is feeling alone and unsure of themselves or their place in the fabric of human experience.
