Author Biography

Writing has been a part of Chris Stead’s life since he was very young. In fact, he won the “creative writing” award way back in Year 3 at school as a seven-year-old. During his senior school years, Chris wrote constantly, be it stories while he was sitting at his desk in class not concentrating on the teacher, or writing up news reports on all the sports and experiences the kids in his local neighbourhood enjoyed every day.
Fast forward a little and Chris’ media career could only be described as diverse. Spanning publications and clients as broad as Maxim Men’s Magazine to the University of NSW to Game Informer Australia and Krash Kids Magazine he has spent 20+ years writing and editing across the Australian media industry.
In 2014, Chris launched a new chapter in his writing life. He founded his own company, Old Mate Media, and launched the first of a range of children’s books in The Wild Imagination of Willy Nilly series. Chris’s vision for the company is that other aspiring writers who would like to create their own digital and print publications – no matter what the topic – will enlist Old Mate Media to help them turn their dream into a reality.

Follow The Breadcrumbs (The Wild Imagination of Willy Nilly Book 2) by Chris Stead is a hilarious children's picture book about a little boy that tries to simplify his life by creating a backyard pond. Willy Nilly loves visiting the ducks at the park with his grandmother, only his dad insists that he clean his room before going anywhere. Willy Nilly becomes impatient and frustrated with his parents' restrictions on his outdoor life, so he decides that if he can't go to the park, he will bring the park to him! Follow Willy Nilly on a second outrageous adventure and learn what happens when we try to take shortcuts and evade our responsibilities. I would recommend this book to children ages two to seven, and especially boys, as Willy Nilly's antics will have young boys rolling on the floor with laughter while teaching them valuable lessons.

Follow The Breadcrumbs (The Wild Imagination of Willy Nilly Book Two) by Chris Stead is a delightful children's story featuring a very inventive and adventurous little boy, Willy Nilly. I fell in love with little Willy; he brings back memories of being young and resourceful without the restrictions of adulthood. The author did an excellent job in creating a character that is a relatable and fun companion with whom to explore a child's world. Being an adult sometimes requires us to forget to see all the possibilities available to us. Children like Willy Nilly remind us that not everything can be controlled or planned out perfectly; sometimes life can get a little messy - especially if we forget to think of outcomes! This book illustrates consequences of poorly thought-out actions, and the mess just waiting to happen when we try to disregard our responsibilities.
