One the night of a play honoring their family’s history, Anthony Morgan was murdered. Corby was sent to kill Ethan, Anthony’s twin brother, and to steal the family Bible, an heirloom worth a half a million dollars. The kill would be pleasure for Corby who blamed Ethan for the death of his brother. This was his chance to exact his revenge. Anthony’s wife, Meredith, found her husband’s dead body. The killer was still in the house. She fought back when he tried to kill her. That night she lost not only her husband, but also her unborn child.

This is the ninth book in the series “An American Family Portrait.” Unfortunately, I did not read the first eight. At times, I felt I was missing something. The most surprising character in the book is Meredith. She had a felt a great loyalty to the Morgan heritage. Her loyalty was stronger than Ethan’s. Ethan never wanted the responsibility of being the oldest Morgan. The Morgan family faced choices that forced them to examine their faith. Fans of suspense and romance will enjoy The Guardians.
