Author Biography

When my daughter graduated from high school, I may have freaked out a little bit. I wondered if I had taught her everything she needed to know as she ventured off into adulthood. Of course there was no way I could have taught her everything to make her launch more graceful and less tumble than life typically is, so I wrote a book. Yes, it’s a children’s book, not because I think she’s still a child, but because she will always be my baby.

I Want You to Know... by Leslie Colburn with illustrations by Stella Ernes is an inspirational Christian children’s book containing points of faith-based wisdom and accompanying illustrated scripture quotes. The wisdom points are set in boxes and include the topics of Faith, Seasons, Adventure, Self Love, Health, Integrity, Money, Gratitude, Perseverance, Trials, Friendships, and Purpose. The accompanying scripture quotes are beautifully presented with full-color illustrations in which the text of the quote is placed in curvilinear lines around the figures of children or an animal, becoming part of the graphic movement and joyful feel of the illustration. Several additional illustrations add to the young reader’s understanding of the book. A gift presentation page is also provided to note the name of the giver and recipient.

In I Want You to Know..., author Leslie Colburn gives us a beautifully illustrated book for young readers that is sure to entertain them while also educating them. The message of God’s love is repeated throughout the book with both text and illustrations, but there are also important practical points for daily living such as being careful what you touch, eating healthy food, and expressing your emotions with people you trust. Children are encouraged to think of both their own lives and their relationships and behavior toward others. While the wisdom points are simply stated and straightforward, parents and other adults will find ample opportunities to discuss the meaning of the scripture quotes depending on the age and comprehension of the child and the complexity of the quote.
