In her uplifting, empowering self-help guide, In High Heels on a Ladder: The 7 Power Tools for Designing Your Life, Tonya Comer provides transformational techniques for healing and living with purpose. Despite being an award-winning interior designer, Comer struggled with impostor syndrome. While working in a male-dominated environment, she faced ageism, sexism, and other misconceptions about interior designers. Comer examines the limiting beliefs she adopted in childhood and adulthood and their sources. She shows us how we attach meaning to our experiences and how we can learn from them. She explores self-love, identity, forgiveness, and healing and their role in helping us live as our truest and freest selves. She encourages us to pursue our dreams, accept our uniqueness, and live in a place of love and purpose.

This is a wonderful book with many discussions that were surprising and eye-opening. Comer’s examination of her childhood, beliefs about herself, and what held her back were enlightening. I loved that the work addresses the issues many women face in their childhood and the corporate sector. Comer’s tone is kind and reassuring, helping her audience examine their lives and discover where they have settled for less when they could achieve so much more. Her messages about forgiveness, including self-forgiveness, were practical and hopeful. I appreciated the actionable steps offered at the end of each chapter that helped me take actual steps to utilize the lessons provided in the book. In High Heels on a Ladder by Tonya Comer takes readers on a life-changing journey of healing, building confidence, and living a meaningful, authentic life. It is powerful, informative, and inspiring.

Tonya Comer was an interior designer, weathering stereotypes, male-dominated workplaces, and ageism when a childish prank caused her mask to slip, and she was forced to change her perspective before her business collapsed. In her book, In High Heels on a Ladder, Comer reflects on the instances and environments that formed her foundational thinking and the steps she had to take to move away from her self-limiting beliefs. She provides her readers with “Seven Power Tools” to help them understand the reason for their negative self-talk and establish a more empowering and caring connection with themselves.

Tonya Comer’s story is inspirational for people who have lived with the pain of self-doubt and limiting talk. The author’s questions and examples motivate others to move away from self-fulfilling prophecies and guide them to make decisions that help them live more fulfilling lives. Comer uses examples from her life to clarify the tools in your toolbox and show you how to use them. She encourages deep thought and journaling so you may find the root cause of whatever holds you back, embrace the revelation, and make positive choices to avoid negative thought patterns. Her “Seven Power Tools” are part of a well-thought-out approach, and the author encourages her readers to seek therapy, if needed, and to grow from their experiences instead of allowing those experiences to define them. In High Heels on a Ladder is a great selection for readers who want to improve their thinking on their journey to self-actualization.

In High Heels on a Ladder by award-winning interior designer, global transformational leader, and speaker Tonya Comer is a self-help book that outlines seven powerful tools to help readers design their lives according to their desires. A strong focus is given to one's self-limiting beliefs and the acknowledgment, acceptance, and overcoming thereof. Each tool is accompanied by a true story from Tonya's life, which outlines her struggle with it, her eventual discovery of her personal flaws, and her acceptance and success over these flaws or shortcomings. The tools, or power tools, as she describes them, follow in succession from owning up to one's choices of how one perceives oneself through to full acceptance of living one's best life according to the self-mastery that Tonya Comer teaches.

In High Heels on a Ladder is more than a personal victory over circumstances; it is an invitation to be part of Tonya Comer's success and victory over negativity and limiting self-beliefs. The tools described are indeed powerful and can be life-changing if applied wholeheartedly. Tonya's instructions took me back in time to when I was perhaps the most vulnerable and made me face demons that I could not face without her caring and wise instruction. Through reading about her own struggles—being badly bullied at school, being sexually harassed at the workplace, and coming from a poor community—I felt stronger and more willing to face my own hardships and battle through them to realize my own truth and path to victory. It's uplifting and inspiring, but don't expect an easy ride as Tonya guides you through your demons and limiting self-beliefs toward the path of acceptance, forgiveness, harmony, and ultimately self-love and love of all there is.

As a woman, facing the expectations imposed by society can be daunting. This goes beyond norms such as appearance because it affects our need to overturn other ingrained stereotypes. The first step is to claim our place and value ourselves for our capabilities. Tonya Comer is a renowned interior designer. She had to overcome personal insecurities and various forms of discrimination to get ahead. In High Heels on a Ladder: The 7 Power Tools for Designing Your Life is the story of her journey of self-discovery. The author shares anecdotes relating to events that left a mark on her and explains how she overcame obstacles. She provides tips and exercises based on her experiences to help other women fulfill their dreams and develop self-love. This book will help readers channel their feelings into creating a better version of themselves.

Tonya Comer writes on a personal level, expressing herself in a down-to-earth manner. I appreciated her courage in addressing complex issues such as insecurity because I know it will motivate many women to move forward. The stories she shares are authentic, and for me, they are meaningful because they address current issues that women often encounter. Tonya teaches women not to let the opinions of others rule them and that bad experiences do not have to define them. The lesson that I liked the most was the realization that forgiveness does not denote weakness, but love. We are all human beings with imperfections and vulnerabilities, so some incidents can be simple misunderstandings. In High Heels on a Ladder is a practical example of how every experience can teach us valuable lessons.

In High Heels on a Ladder: The 7 Power Tools for Designing Your Life by Tonya Comer is a self-help book about empowering yourself with self-love and self-care. Tonya shares her unique story about growing up in the projects in Pittsburgh and being bullied by peers. It shaped her as a grown woman who on the outside had everything going for her, a successful career as an interior designer, and a happy marriage. But on the inside, everything was imploding; she had a massive debt, her marriage was falling apart, and there were mysterious health issues plaguing her. Tonya shares her journey of reaching rock bottom to the seven steps that she created within her own life that helped her regain her identity and power.

Author Tonya Comer is an exceptional writer who has a gift for simplifying complex psychological explanations that the reader can grasp in a clear-cut and practical manner. I found her seven steps so easy to understand and follow. She is an expert at articulating her key points, so her words were very powerful. I have read many self-help books, and I can honestly say that I learned more in this book alone than I have in a long time. Her Journey to Wholeness Design Workspace at the end of each section asked really deep questions that actually helped in getting to the root of our self-limiting beliefs and how/when it first started. In High Heels on a Ladder is a phenomenal must-read that will have a huge impact on your self-love journey!

In High Heels on a Ladder: The 7 Power Tools for Designing Your Life is a life-changing self-help book for women to step into their purpose after breaking through the barriers of shame and self-doubt. Tonya meticulously crafted the 7 Powers Tools for all women to heal the wounds that they are afraid to uncover. The tools work hand in hand, you can't have one without the other. By far "Forgive It" is my favorite tool. It had the most impact on my personal development because of all the "ITs" that I had to forgive. Before reading the book, I felt alone, unworthy, and unwanted but Tonya filled this book with love and sisterly guidance so I felt like she was right there with me on the journey. I have been living in fear that all of the things that had happened in my life actually define me, but with this book, I learned otherwise. I can't recommend this book enough. I not only love this book but I fell in love with myself and discovered my Truth.
