Luck of the Irish is an anthology of cozy mysteries that features works from Kathleen Marple Kalb, Kate Darroch, Amy Grundy, and more. Each story is related to the Saint Patrick’s Day theme with a variety of delightful hijinks, mysteries, and perhaps even a leprechaun or two. Each offers fun twists and turns that will keep you invested. The anthology will take you as far back as 1899 with “Fatal Saint Patrick’s Day” and even to 1961 with “St Pat’s Day in New York.” It will put you into several investigations with a variety of characters that are charming and humorous. The stories meet the theme with ease through creative situations such as a series of bank robberies in “Leprechaun Gold.” At the end of the anthology is a selection of recipes provided by the authors which include Irish stew, innocent Irish coffee, and Lucky Leprechaun smoothie.

The cozies in this anthology provide quick reads and humorous treats that mystery lovers will enjoy. Each story cleverly adheres to the theme such as incorporating fun references as in Jessica Thompson’s “A Caterer’s Guide to Leprechauns and Lies” and Jaclyn Weist’s “Leprechaun Gold.” These poke fun at the concept of leprechauns in humorous ways that suit the reality of the story. A recurring theme is that you make your luck by surrounding yourself with good friends, which several of the cozy protagonists do. The authors take great strides to creatively capture the holiday in ways that can be enjoyed at any time of the year. Children of all kinds - including furbabies and those who are young at heart - can be found throughout in ways that are lovingly depicted and shown with care. There is great appreciation for strong-willed female protagonists who tackle their problems with sharp wits and don’t let anyone steer them away from sleuthing. The brisk pace of these cozies provides satisfying snack-sized reads perfect for those short on time. The Luck of the Irish is a poignant and overall touching tribute to the holiday.
