Rita Reynolds happily redecorates her son Zack's old room. She has many plans for this summer which Rita hopes will become the mother and son's long-awaited reunion. Instead, Zack and his girlfriend, Angie, are heading to a distant and very dangerous place, in Rita's opinion: Ethiopia on a humanitarian mission. Rita's boss Donna at Design2Go, where she is a sales clerk, cuts Rita's already scarce working hours because sales are down. Now, the almost fifty-year-old, divorced Rita faces unemployment. But Rita has a talent. She loves to bake and once even dreamed about opening a bakery. Will Rita jump at the opportunity to teach a baking class for adults? Reinventing Rita by Nancy Christie, the first book in a series, is a treat for fans of women's fiction, family drama, and motivational novels.

I loved every bit of Reinventing Rita, from the first chapter to the exquisite ending. Nancy Christie turned a simple story of the divorced mother of a grown child trying to improve her finances into a compelling novel I couldn't put down. Rita is such a realistic character! She is an ordinary woman, one of us. Those who fear the future and consider themselves too old for further challenges will recognize and love Rita and be inspired by her story. How often do we say no to our dreams because we think that even attempting to fulfill them would "complicate" our lives? Nancy tells us that there is a possibility for inner growth and life improvement for everyone, including women who dedicate the most productive years of their lives to their families. Nancy's humorous writing style perfectly complements the subtle psychology of her engaging prose. Also, an attentive reader will find many handy tips regarding starting and promoting a business in Reinventing Rita.
