Shaping Your New Normal by Michelle Green is a non-fiction self-help guide to assist readers in “Navigating Your Life After the Global Covid-19 Pandemic.” Green comes forward with over a decade of life coaching chops and a plan for those of us who still have serious brain clouding as we emerge out of worldwide isolation. Broken down into ten distinct and interconnected parts, Green provides introspective prompts, activities, positive reinforcement, and encouraging advice on areas of life ranging from pre/during and post-Covid routines and alignment with values, a straightforward application of the Be-Do-Have and SMART models, visualization, obstacles, genuine validation, and action-oriented planning, among many other things.
Change is extremely hard in the best of circumstances, but what the world went through in what felt like the snap of a finger was mind-boggling. We hunkered down and did as we were told, guided in change by health experts, the government, and our friends and family. We are now coming out and entering another phase of change without the same firm instruction we had before. Michelle Green has stepped up to fill the leadership role in Shaping Your New Normal. I loved the use of the Wheel of Life through each stage and the fact that it is made clear this is a moment of personal evolution. Evolution takes time and we are allowed to give ourselves that. Where the Wheel of Life stands out for me is in our ability to quantify our personal success in a format that places accountability, quite literally, in black and white. The advice given is exceptional and the conversational tone of the narrative is perfect. I am certain all who have the good fortune to find Green's book in their hand will feel the same way.
