Rori Thornton's exceptionally titled In Which a Demon King Does Not Have a Romantic Interest in His Human Gardener is a romance novel unlike any other. The story follows Demon King Jurao, who has just finished a three-decade-long campaign, successfully crushing his enemies and embracing his ascension to rule the United Demon Kingdom. On his return to the palace, however, Jurao sets his eyes on a human named Braelin, who has been taking care of the garden for the past ten years. Impressed with his work, Jurao makes him the Royal Gardener, much to the chagrin of other palace nobles. Additionally, as Jurao and Braelin spend more time together, Jurao starts putting even more palace responsibilities on Braelin, leading to the rumor that he has a crush on Braelin. What's next in store for Jurao and Braelin?

Funny, witty, and totally absurd (at times), In Which a Demon King Does Not Have a Romantic Interest in His Human Gardener will be an absolute blast for any romantic comedy lover. From the very first page, Rori Thornton puts the reader into a unique world that features extraordinary human-loving plants, a clueless, all-powerful king, whiny demon nobles, and a human gardener who is more than what meets the eye at first glance. The author takes time to set up the plot and the characters, but by 50 pages or so, you find yourself fully immersed in the story. The characters' interactions are hilarious, and Thornton does a brilliant job with the dialogue. Jurao and Braelin have palpable chemistry and make an adorable pair. If you're into satire and romantic comedies, this is just the book for you!
