Shiva by Victor Davis is a story that will make you hope that your pet will never run away. This short story is about a beloved pet Husky named Shiva that runs away after moving with the family to a new home. A week later Shiva returns, but there is something different about her.

Victor Davis has given me a new thing to fear. My own dog! In his short story Shiva, he makes the reader wonder what actually happens to a pet when they run away. When Shiva returns after a week, Alan and his wife Krissa know something is off about her. Even their daughter Maddy knows that Shiva has changed. This story reminds the reader to listen to their gut instincts because too often they are right. Personally I will never let my dog out of my sight when she is outside again. I like that Davis mixes Hinduism into this story. He cleverly named the wife Krissa, which the reader will find out why later on in the story. I know little about Hinduism and Shiva but have since looked it up. I appreciate that this story has a different type of monster in it and not the normal everyday ones.

If you like to read horror stories or stories that give you chills, then Shiva is for you. This is the second story I have read by Davis. The first one was also a short story named Gingerbread and was more of an adult fairytale. Davis has a gift to make the reader think and see things differently.
