Sir Pigglesworth’s First Adventure: The Sir Pigglesworth Adventure Series, Book 1 is an adventure travel storybook for children, grades K-3, written by JoAnn Wagner and Sara Dean, and illustrated by David Darchicourt. Sir Pigglesworth was given an important mission by the Queen when he was knighted for bravery. He was charged with the task of traveling the globe to experience the different cultures and history of the peoples he would meet and the places he would see. Then, he was to share his experiences with children everywhere. His first adventure took him to London, England. Sir Pigglesworth needed to stretch and be a little active after sitting on the plane for so long, and he rushed out of the airplane and toured Heathrow Airport. There were so many things for him to see, but then he realized that he had forgotten to wait for his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Pigglesworth. Fortunately, he bumped into two very helpful adults, named Bill and JoAnn, who helped him get back up again, and made sure he was all right. Then they helped him find his parents. JoAnn gave great head scratches, instantly making her a favorite friend. When he was reunited with his parents, the three royal pigs went to tour the sights of London, including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the Tower Bridge. Best of all, Sir Pigglesworth got to see his two new friends again.
JoAnn Wagner and Sara Dean’s children’s adventure travel book for grades K-3, Sir Pigglesworth’s First Adventure: The Sir Pigglesworth Adventure Series, Book 1, follows the newly knighted five-year-old Sir Pigglesworth as he begins his world tour. This young pig is brimming with curiosity and seems destined to get into all sorts of crazy situations, and it’s great fun to watch as he does exactly that. David Darchicourt’s illustrations are marvelous! Each illustration is bold and brightly colored and works quite well with the story. From Heathrow Airport to a double decker -- there’s even an action-packed view of Sir Pigglesworth navigating the heights of the London Eye, the great ferris wheel on the shore of the Thames. Wagner and Dean’s story is a perfect fit for storytime, but it’s also quite suitable for young readers to try on their own. Sir Pigglesworth’s First Adventure: The Sir Pigglesworth Adventure Series, Book 1 is highly recommended.
