The Land of Nod is a 29-page children’s picture book written by Alicia Antonio and illustrated by Manqing Jin. The story centers around a mother putting her daughter to bed and telling her about a whimsical land called Nod that resides across a rainbow arch somewhere in the sky. This land of Nod is where you go as soon as you begin to doze. A land with fancy trees, wild animals and faraway places. A land where you can comfortably settle in beneath the stars. Following the story, there is an author and illustrator bio as well as an information page for World Vision which receives a percentage of the book’s profits.

Alicia Antonio’s The Land of Nod is a lovely book to help children in effortlessly nodding off to sleep each night. It has that special light tone to it that is perfect in a bedtime routine and the concept about a land called Nod is unique and inspired. I feel this book has a natural rhythm to it that’s sometimes broken but there are also plenty of times when the beat is fluid and reliable. The illustrations are simple but endearing and I love that part of the proceeds go to making our world a better place. Altogether, The Land of Nod is a delightful children’s bedtime book that reminded me of Good Night Moon. I have no doubt this book would do well in its nighttime mission.
