Author Biography

When Braden McElroy is not writing fantasy for children, he is employed in the adult equivalent - developing financial forecasts for a large energy company located in Houston, Texas. Proof resides somewhere in his attic that he earned degrees in agricultural economics and Russian language and literature from Oklahoma State University, as well as an MBA from Yale. Otherwise, his personal identity has been reduced to "Lisa's husband" or "Mara and Rowan's dad". In his spare time, he continues to help manage family cotton farming operations near his hometown in Oklahoma.

At just 57 pages, both the story line of this book AND the cover captured me completely and kept me hooked until the end. This is not an adult book. No. It's a simple, easy to read book for younger readers, yet it is written in a fabulous way that will capture the reader's heart no matter their age. Braden McElroy does a fantastic job at creating a story full of emotion and complexity. Luna is a wonderfully created character who will work her way into the heart of the reader instantly. She escapes into the hedge fencing and finds herself among a whole new set of friends.

In the Spirithaven, Luna learns about capturing the memories, and bringing her true feelings forward. Any child, young or old, will quickly make a new friend in Luna and will fall in love with her adventure to the Spirithaven. Things aren't always easy in Spirithaven, though, when Luna faces a gnome set on capturing the bad, and when it turns against her. Luna is strong and determined to overcome that gnome, and each page turn brings a twist.

From smiles to frowns, this book will bring out the best in the reader. With two young children who love to read, this is going at the top of the reading list for them. Learning to face emotions is a powerful element in life, and Braden McElroy captures that lesson completely through the world of Spirithaven and the amazing Luna. I highly recommend this book with a 5 star rating to anyone who has a young reader looking for a wonderful, easy to read, emotional story.
