Author Biography

Miles was born in the UK. He followed an engineering career into management within a blue chip company for twenty five years before leaving to run his own company.

He got into heroic fantasy reading in his late teens, but didn’t have the call to writing until his forties.

He lives happily with his family in Kent, England running his company and writing.

A few words from Miles...
“Fantasy writing came as a surprise to me. I’d written plenty of words in my time, mostly technical manuals and management reports, but nothing so demanding as a full-blown novel. It all just happened rather than a planned approach to becoming a writer.

I find writing fascinating. I set the stage in my head, and have a goal to achieve for a piece. I then let the characters have a ‘free run’ to a degree, giving them a kind of personal creativity. It often leads to unexpected results – some of which rise into the highly dramatic, and even evolve into unplanned plot lines. I will occasionally surprise my family with ‘you won’t believe what just happened!’.

I have developed a late love-affair with fantasy writing and intend to continue for as long as I am able.”

"Walkers of Legend" by Miles Allen is a double first: it’s this author’s debut novel and it’s also the first in what promises to be a very exciting series. The world is ruled almost entirely by the Empire, but this is starting to falter. It needs more slave power and so begins a war to conquer the remaining free people. Chayne, an exceptional young mage, is discovered by the chief magii of the advancing enemy and taken on as his apprentice. However, Chayne won’t sink to the vicious ways of his Master and works to protect the lands he has left. He is not alone. His faithful friend Garamon, woodcutter turned warrior, gathers a somewhat unlikely but brave band of allies including a cat-demonette and a barbarian woman, and sets out on a rescue mission. And there is an ancient secret to discover.

This well crafted book starts a little slow as the lays the foundation for the series. But once the action begins, the pace picks up and it becomes hard to put the book down. The characters we meet are complex and well developed. "Walkers of Legend" has all the elements of a good fantasy: good versus evil, journeys - both physical and emotional, magic, and supernatural beings. Yet it’s not predictable. The author gives these classic ingredients a unique slant. Miles Allen is an author to watch and "Walkers of Legend" is a series to follow.
