Michael Shanahan is having a bad day. It doesn’t matter which day; they’re all the same, and they’re all bad. Tripping With Geoffrey Odell Donaldson by David Bruce Buffum tells us about Michael Shanahan from his daily routine to the road trip he goes on with Geoffrey. Michael is an insurance claims adjuster. Naturally, the people he has to deal with on the phone are unhappy. It’s not a pleasant job. Then Geoffrey enters his life. Geoffrey is the new clerk who brings the mail to Michael’s desk. He introduces himself as Geoffrey Odell Donaldson, or, if you go by his initials, G.O.D. He doesn’t just deliver the mail; he pops in and out of Michael’s life at will. He’s in Michael’s bedroom, car, or wherever Michael happens to be.

Tripping With Geoffrey Odell Donaldson is a fun book to read. The author, David Bruce Buffum, has a knack for injecting just the right amount of humor into his writing. His use of repetition illustrated the monotony of Michael’s life, and while I could sympathize with Michael, I could also be amused at what he goes through. This is a feel-good book, perfect for reading on the beach or relaxing with at home. It’s an easy read and will have the reader smiling throughout. On a road trip to the Grand Canyon, Michael learns how much G.O.D. cares for many people in many places. That could be a good lesson for all of us to learn.
