Victim of Love by Barbara Woster is the perfect two-men-obsessing-over-one-woman historical romance. The triangle takes place between a woman, Cara, and two men of polar opposite cultures--one being Native American. The story is engrossing from the start because of the intriguing way the author sets up characters, conflict, and plot development. This story could be classified as a romantic drama but has a suspenseful edge that makes it genre-bending, which is great for a change. I love stories and writers that go outside the box for entertainment purposes. One thing I like about this book is that although you think it's predictable, it behaves in unpredictable ways, and has some unexpected twists that will have you biting your nails. The settings are believable, the details are realistic and add a lot to the story.

Although the explicit parts are strong and depicted frankly, this is what you would expect in the category of romantic thriller. I do like that Cara is caught between cultures, as this seems very plausible given the times and situations of the day. Even though some of the situations are violent, they are used to illustrate points made in the story, and the author does give fair warning. There are lots of character types and events you'll find to like and dislike, and the great dialogue helps move the story along in a most entertaining way. If you're looking for a saga to take you into a new world of contrasts, conflict, and life-changing events--all wrapped up in an unconventional romance--Victim of Love by Barbara Woster is one novel you can lose yourself in.
