“There’s bad magic in this river” is an understatement that kicks off an enthralling story of love, hate, romance, history, horror, and magic ... lots of magic in Villa Leila by Adam Herman. There is a merciless killer on the loose tagged by local newspapers as “The Creature from the Mississippi.” Others say it is the Illuminati or a part of an earlier unsolved mystery that envelopes the long-abandoned castle, Villa Leila. Regardless of what others think, Theo Becket returns home to bury his estranged father and becomes mired in the deadliest of mysteries and magic.

Indy author Adam Herman has the abundance of imagination and writing skills necessary to lure readers into denying themselves food and sleep to discover what happens on the next page or chapter. Listed in the mythology/folk tales, fairy tale fantasy, and general humorous fiction genres, the story includes much more, including horror and an underlying philosophical perception of human conditions: friendship, love, trust, deception, and revenge. Oh, and did I mention the magic, lots of magic? Indeed, it starts with a talking catfish, continues to a killer from the depths of the river who mercilessly strikes a specific victim, leaving others unscathed, and concludes with a baseball discovered during a fire at the Villa Leila. To write more would be to give away spoilers, which would be a great disservice to Herman's efforts and excellence in writing this amazing story. It is a story you will not soon forget from an author who I predict will someday be on everyone’s favorite author's radar screens. I loved Villa Leila and look forward to more of Herman's work.

Ridiculous and heartfelt; such as this thing called called life.
