In Whispers in Washington, Jennifer Wilck's heroine, Naomi, shuns the press. Her former marriage to a politician-turned-embezzler once projected her into the headlines and ruined her life, and she’s no longer willing to trust another man or to believe in love. Her new life as an independent woman is all that she needs to be happy. When she discovers that Max, her very attractive new neighbor, is a freelance journalist, she knows she has to keep her distance even though he is quite irresistible. But the last thing she needs is for someone to pry into her former life, therefore a journalist is someone to avoid.
Max can’t deny his attraction to Naomi, to her beauty and intelligence. He even wonders if she isn’t the woman he’s been waiting for all his life. But he also knows that his real reason for pursuing her is because writing up her scandalous story will get him where he wants to go, and turn him into the highly-paid star reporter he wants to be. Yes, their relationship will be over when she discovers why he’s really courting her but isn’t his career the most important thing in his life?
Whispers in Washington: Ticket to True Love is a precise, believable, and utterly charming story, and the tension builds beautifully. Despite their flaws, the two main characters, Max and Naomi, are easy to like, and they are so well-suited. Yet, despite their attraction, Max's personal ambition seems an impossible hurdle. Jennifer Wilck is certainly a good writer, and this nicely written tale kept me holding my breath until its very satisfying end. Well done!
