Children are taught and encouraged to make good choices; this begins when they are very young so that they hopefully continue so throughout the years. "Why Do My Feet Say Yes When My Head Says No?," written by Eileen L. Cooley, Ph.D, and illustrated by Jill Dubin, is an excellent book to initiate discussions with children with regard to making good choices. The children in the book are all faced with making a choice and they make a good choice even if it is difficult or not exactly what they feel like doing at the time or something may be difficult so a plan is thought of. In addition to the story, the last page in the book discusses tough decisions and choosing between what the children in the book think they should do and what they want to do or what they fear. The author shares problem solving skills to teach children and provides examples from the dilemmas that the children face in the book.

This book is simply written, which means it is easily understood by children and it is arranged in such a way that it can be used as a great tool in discussions about making choices. There is a line written on each page with a picture. The line can be read and discussed, and a child can be asked what he or she would do before the next line is read. The illustrations are vibrant and are filled with emotions which will allow for an even deeper discussion about the emotions that are connected with each dilemma and choice the children are faced with. I would highly recommend this for young children to use as a learning and teaching resource.
