Kayleigh has no brothers and sisters as she is the first-born child. She loves dogs and says 'doggie' every time she sees a dog. She wishes to have a puppy of her own. Her parents decide to buy her a puppy of her own for Christmas. On Christmas Eve, Kayleigh’s dad drives to his friend’s house to pick up a blue puppy for Kayleigh. Her mom and dad find it difficult to pick a puppy for Kayleigh because they are all very cute. The puppy becomes Kayleigh’s best friend and she names the puppy Roxy. They spend all day playing together and having fun.

A Puppy for Christmas by RyAnn Hall is a delightful story that speaks about the bonding and friendship between a little girl and her puppy. It is also a story for all dog lovers, especially those who have puppies at home, because they will be able to relate to the moments happening between Kayleigh and Roxy. The illustrations are adorable and they bring the characters in the story alive and make the scenes vivid for young readers. This book is perfect for bedtime storytelling and can be used in classrooms and school libraries for read aloud and storytelling sessions.

The love Kayleigh has for her puppy is real, tangible, and relatable to youngsters. This book would be a good Christmas gift for children. Dogs make wonderful friends and companions and this story proves that. Many parents will be encouraged to buy a puppy for their child after they finish reading the book, especially if they do not have siblings.
